GMTC has set up plants in Xinying Industrial Zone and Liuying Science and Technology Industrial Zone in Tainan City. Based on the Water Resources Risk Assessment Tool of the World Resources Institute, the water stress in the area where GMTC is located is“Low Medium risk (1-2)”. GMTC uses tap water mainly for cooling and recycling during the manufacturing process and employee domestic water consumption, with no direct water intake from the environment. The rainwater recovery system and process water recycling system are established based on the management concept of multiple water resource recycling and utilization, so as to improve the water usage effectiveness of water consumption per unit. The company-wide water withdrawal in 2023 was 306 million liters, and the water recycling rate was 99.5%.

In 2023, the total water withdrawal of major processes was 294 million liters, and the water intensity per metric ton of steel output was 0.00356 million liters/metric ton, which was 3.0% less than in 2022. In terms of GMTC’s wastewater treatment, rainwater and wastewater are segregated within the factory area. The wastewater from the production process is discharged into the joint wastewater treatment plant in the industrial area, and is discharged to surface water after wastewater treatments in compliance with the discharge water standard, in order to mitigate its impact on the environment. In 2023, the wastewater discharge from the GMTC’s major processes totaled 87 million liters, and the wastewater processing costs will be paid and reported to the competent authority on a regular basis.
